The oxford shoe is a traditional leather shoe that originated in Scotland and Ireland. This style of footwear is made from very heavy leather with lacing that is enclosed. The original oxford shoes were constructed of leather that was not tanned and were not very ornate at all. Today, oxford shoes are designed in a diverse array of styles and materials including leather, suede, and even synthetics. These shoes are classified as dress shoes for women and men alike and lean more towards the casual end of the spectrum rather than dressy. By definition oxfords are below the ankle and in general will have a cap over the toes which is simply a small piece of leather sewn over the toe.
In men’s oxfords there are basically 5 types which are kilties, wingtip, saddle, open laced and closed laced. The open laced shoes are made with the sides sewn on the top front and when laced appear as if they were in segments. In opposition to this style are the closed lace or Balmorals which feature laces sewn under the front of the shoe with the laces over the tongue resulting in footwear that appears to be constructed in one piece.
The kiltie style is very popular and they tend to be more ornate in their design with a fringed leather tongue covering the eyelets and laces and sometimes features tassels on top of this. The saddle oxfords are unique in their appearance in that they have a saddle shaped piece of leather sewn onto them that is of a contrasting color to the rest of the shoe. By far the most desired of all oxford shoes is the wingtip. These feature fancy leather embroidery on the toe that appears to resemble wings. Even in centuries past, people have always desired fashion in one form or another that was more than simply functional, but had traits of beauty as well. In times past, fashion designs were elevated from boring to beautiful by using the art of trimming. This was a time before the introduction of the sewing machine, hence all these embellishments to the clothing were accomplished by hand. The effect of this was that people had to pay by the hour for a seamstress to complete all the sewing and trimming for each garment which made it very expensive. The result of this economic effect was that a dress with a lot of trim added to it became a status symbol. since it represented an individual that had the financial means to afford such a garment.

Since I live on an island here on Northwest Florida, I see beach weddings all the time. They are very popular here as well as in other beautiful coastal areas all over the world. These wedding can range from very casual and inexpensive to sophisticated and very costly. Either way, the beautiful view and the whole ambience of the setting is free and at the same time priceless.
Beach weddings can present a bit of a dilemma for the bride as far as shoes go. I know when we had ours on the beach my wife just went barefooted and so did I. We had a very casual wedding though, she wore a beautiful sexy prom gown she borrowed from a niece, and I wore shorts and a pastel polo shirt.
For most people they will want shoes, plus not every one has the powder soft sand that we have. The best bet for a simple beach wedding is probably to just go with a simple pair of slip-ons that can be matched to whatever your wedding’s colors are. If you go with a slip-on bridal shoe it will be easy to get the sand from between your toes and shake off your feet when you get out of the sand and begin entertaining guests. When they were first introduced cowboy boots were produced specifically for cowboys and the emphasis was on protection and safety while they were riding and herding cattle. Due to the harsh environment that many of these men worked in with snakes and briars it was crucial to have boots that offered exceptional protection. These boots were created by a fusion of a number of other boots such as the Hessian and Wellington. The original cowboy boots had one inch heels and were made of cowhide.
Since their original introduction cowboy boots have gone through a number of changes including taking on some of the characteristics of the cavalier style from Europe. These boots had a higher heel than the original footwear and were constructed of much higher quality leather than their predecessors. Unlike many cowboy boots we are familiar with, these had rounded or squared toes and remained that way for a number of years well into the mid 20th century.
In the twenties and thirties the cowboy boot began making the transition from utilitarian work boot to mainstream fashion foot wear. Their popularity was spread through the release of a number of movies based on western life and cowboys. In addition the rodeo became extremely popular in America which again showcased the footwear. As the name implies the shoes made from alligator skins are commonly called alligator shoes. Just as with the leather that comes from cows for most shoes alligator shoes are made from the hides of alligators and are very popular due to the natural durability of the alligator skin. Because of limited availability of alligator skins the shoes are relatively expensive in comparison in relation to other shoes constructed of more common materials such as that of cowhide. Until recently the alligator was considered an endangered species by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service but after years of limited harvesting has been released and there are now hunting seasons during which the reptiles can be taken.
