Women's Fashion: The Mental Cost

Women’s fashion can take a toll on one’s mental health. Yes, fashion is supposed to be a good thing, but, when taken to the extreme, fashion can be detrimental to one’s health. There are so many options available to make one’s self beautiful; it is no wonder that fashion can be harmful. Can you really talk about women’s fashion without mentioning the affects of it on the mental and physical aspects?

In magazines, there are pictures of these beautiful, seemingly perfect women, advertising all different aspects of fashion. One ad might be on lingerie, with the very toned and flawless body, while another might show teeth whiteners. All which has probably been retouched so that the public will fall in love with whatever fashion product is being advertised.

This may make women want to change their bodies. While this can be done in a healthy way, through exercise and diet, some women take it to the extreme and have plastic surgery. There are breast implants, liposuction, tummy tucks, and so much more. Instead of being happy with how one looks, they try to change everything physically possible.

If the people in charge of starting the fashion trends would put more thoughts into who they portray and who their audience is, it is possible that fewer women would look to drastic measures to be beautiful. (more…)

How to Ensure You Buy a Valuable Diamond

Certification of gemstones is an important consideration when buying jewellery. A large trade in gem-grade diamonds and other gemstones exists. Gemstones can be sold already set in jewelry, or as is increasingly popular, sold unset. There are a number of important considerations when buying diamonds and it is therefore important to ensure that proper certification is obtained.

In the last two decades there has been a proliferation of certification, not only for diamonds but for gemstones as well. After all when you want to sell the diamond the new owner will want a certification from you. If the seller is unwilling to supply a certification with the diamond then he may not be telling the truth and you should find someone who will. Insist on a certification before procuring a diamond for investment purposes. Although certification can provide certainty and clarity, each laboratory has its own methodology to evaluate gemstones; grading experience is different and depending on the certification required each laboratory approaches these issues differently.

Diamonds are specifically renowned as a material with superlative physical qualities such as their hardness and brilliance. A diamond’s gem quality, which is not as dependent on material properties as industrial applications, has invited both imitation and the invention of procedures to enhance the gemological properties of natural diamonds. Some of these procedures make the diamond appear bigger but greatly reduce the sparkle and other positive qualities of the diamond. Nevertheless a diamond is commonly cut and polished to produce a high appearance of these qualities. Borazon, ultra hard fullerite, or aggregated diamond nanorods, enables a diamond to hold a polish extremely well and retain their lustre. (more…)

How To Choose Baby Shoes That Are Appropriate For Your Baby

You’ve seen all of those adorable shoes in the department store. Teeny tiny tennis shoes to sweet little sandals fill the shelves of the footwear department in the infants’ aisle. Does your baby really need shoes, or are they just for looks?

Baby will need shoes during his first years of life, but what types of shoes are appropriate? Is there anything wrong with booties and bare feet for little ones? Newborns do not necessarily require shoes. Booties or socks are an excellent idea for infants to keep feet and toes warm and cozy. In hot summer months, bare feet may be most comfortable for your baby.

As your child grows, you may want to introduce him or her to a pair of soft-soled shoes. Such shoes are a great way to introduce your child to the feeling of shoes on their feet. Frequently, soft-soled baby shoes are made of thick cloth. This type of shoe provides an extra layer of warmth and protection for little piggies and is the first stepping stone to formal footwear.

Going barefoot is easy and healthy for baby when learning to walk or crawl on smooth, safe surfaces. Soft-soled shoes provide a layer of protection for baby’s feet when learning to stand or crawl on less optimal surfaces without hindering your child’s feeling. It is important to provide baby with leather soft-soled shoes as opposed to hard shoes. Your child is learning to move the feet to master their movements. Hard soles on shoes only hinder this process for your child. (more…)

Common Fashion Mistakes

Not all of us are blessed with the ability and the talent to create a great looking outfit every time that will make us look our shining best. In fact, your fashion sense basically is something that you acquire and develop through the years based on your preferences, the influences you get from family, friends and others and the inspiration that you get from other people’s sense of style. No matter how much we may try to keep ourselves updated with the latest trends and reading on lots of materials to know more about flattering our figures and dressing up, there are common fashion mistakes that we seem to commit over and over again. Here are some of these mistakes.

Wearing accessories is important most especially if you are wearing something simple because the embellishments actually accent your outfit. A common mistake that many people commit though is wearing too much of them. Glitz and shine can definitely glam up your look but there is such a thing as being too overwhelming. This goes for all whether its jewelry, beadwork on clothes, lacework, etc. For example fancy and complicated bead work on the chest area of a top can emphasize a woman’s breast and those who are heavy on the bust wouldn’t want this.

Showing too much skin can make you look more like a slut instead of looking sexy. The secret to looking sexy would be to emphasize your asset or best feature in a suggestive manner. For example, if you have smooth, slender legs to show off how about wearing a skirt with a slit to reveal them. Show off your shoulders and back with a deep back halter top. (more…)

Rough Sailing Calls for Polarized Shades Like Maui Jim and Gill Sunglasses

If you’re like to fish, or hang out at the beach a lot, you may have heard of Maui Jim, Costa del Mar and Gill sunglasses. These brands distinguish themselves by being made of material that is light enough to float when dropped into the water – accidentally or otherwise. Going out on boating and fishing trips with good pals and little kids could mean a bit of rough play, even while you’re surrounded with water! One may find that one needs more than just a pair of hands to keep one’s sunglasses on. If only there was a way to make adhesive sunglasses!

Well, next to goggles or wraparound sunglasses that fit snugly around the upper part of your face, or glasses that are kept from flying off by a glasses chain, floating eyewear like Gill sunglasses are handy enough for the ardent fisherman. Sometimes you don’t want the back of your neck to be irritated by chains either, especially on hot days where sunburn is a possibility.

Lightweight frames make for easy carrying. You don’t want to burden yourself with heavy gear after all when you’re out to enjoy a supposedly quiet, peaceful recreational activity, away from the hubbub of life in the city. And while sunglasses are small, kicking back with a heavy accessory on your face could be quite burdensome. Some sturdy fashion sunglasses make it a point to be made of a heavy, durable material, but you don’t need something like this on a boating trip. (more…)

One of the best parts of going back to school – besides getting to buy new school supplies – is that you have a great excuse to buy new shoes. If you have kids, they likely head out to the bus every morning in a pair of sneakers. Maybe you’re jealous of the comfort they get to live in, but don’t be! You can wear it too!

History Of Perfume

Perfumes are one the most loved items by people of all age groups in all over the world. There are different types of perfumes with various aromas and one can select according to his taste and purpose. Egyptians carry the distinction of first introducing the perfumes to the world. Thousands of years ago Egyptians used perfumes during their religious rituals. They burned incense sticks and applied certain ointments and balms on their skin just like today’s cosmetics in order to get sweet aroma. In those days perfumes were strictly reserved only for religious purposes as they believed that application of perfumes cleansed their body and soul as well as made them ready to perform religious ceremonies.

In the 16th century perfumes were widely used by the Egyptian royal family on important festivals. During this period Egyptian royal women applied certain perfumed creams and oils on their skin to entertain their male counterparts while lovemaking. Then slowly perfume usage started spreading to Greece, Rome, and other parts of the world. Presently perfume usage is attributed mainly to the Islamic community as they have popularized perfume usage all over the world.

Advent of Christianity and fall of Roman Empire led to the downfall of perfume influence among people for some time. Again in twelfth century this tradition revived owing to the discovery of various trade roots to the east and other parts of the world. France played a major role in popularizing perfumes in the seventeenth century. During this period perfume makers and glove makers formed a guild in order to promote widespread usage of perfume not only in France but also in their colonies. (more…)

Assessing the Value of Diamonds

Diamond is a pure or nearly pure form of crystallised carbon of extreme hardness and valued as a precious stone. The hardest diamonds in the world are from the New England area in New South Wales, Australia.

The most familiar usage of diamonds today is as gemstones used for adornment. Unlike many other gems, it is well-suited to daily wear because of its resistance to scratching perhaps contributing to its popularity as the preferred gem in an engagement ring or wedding ring, which are often worn every day. If you plan on obtaining a diamond because you like how it looks or if gives you or your love one pleasure then the price of a diamond may be well worth its purchase.

However it is also well worth your while to ensure that you get it properly certified.

Four characteristics, known informally as the four Cs, are now commonly used as the basic descriptors of diamonds: these are carat, cut, color, and clarity. Diamond prices (particularly among wholesalers and other industry professionals) are often quoted per carat, rather than per standard weight. (more…)
