A New Shampoo May Be The Best Cure

Hair care and hair style relies heavily on the products one uses on a daily basis. For instance, shampoo can have a different effect on different hair types. If a person is prone to frizzy hair, it is best to choose a hair style that can work if the hair is behaving or misbehaving. Similarly, if a person has straight hair, thin hair, to choose a hair cut that gives the illusion that more hair is there is likely the best approach to take.

A hair stylist is the best person to offer professional advice as they see people all day long, of all hair types, and have likely built up a regular clientele of return customers happy with the results which they provided over time. There are certain shampoo types for people with specific types of hair, for example, people with straight hair might use a product that controls damage or flyaway hairs. A person with curly hair might use a relaxing shampoo to tame wild locks. There are also varieties for people who want shine in their hair, which can often help the appearance of damaged hair look more refined and sleek. (more…)

Less Is More Darling

Remember, when it comes to looking uber trendy and cool, less is more. If you’re going for the large designer sunglasses then great, but leave the diamond choker or chandelier earrings at home. If you really, really must go out and about in that designer jewellery that is bound to draw attention to you, then leave the designer sunglasses at home. Or so they say.

In the news this week, Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, has been slated for going over the top on bling. After being snapped in his designer sunglasses along with designer watch it was commented that he was distinctly lacking in the classic French style that the world has come to expect.

It is now expected that a style guru will be brought in to advise and re-dress ahead of the President’s visit to the UK. Never mind world poverty or global warming, let’s make sure he looks the part! This world is fast becoming a ridiculously shallow place. I’m sure this man has much more on his mind than if his watch matches his sunglasses or not!

Surely, we should leave these world leaders to get on with the important jobs of bringing down crime rates and securing the future for our planet than to pressure them into having a certain style of dress? Can we not just leave it to the likes of airhead celebrities to stress over whether or not their designer sunglasses are the right colour size?

When you look at the statistics of optical diseases, then the President is someone to be followed. Age related macular degeneration, where the damage is usually done by early adult hood, is an ever increasing problem. Destroying the central region of the retina, this is the leading cause of loss of eye sight and so much can be done to protect a person from this. Not least, wearing designer sunglasses.

To compound this problem, it has been found that those with this debilitating eye disease also have a heavily increased chance of dying from heart attack or stroke. There is no obvious connection that the medical world can come up with at present, it just seems according to statistics, that this is the case. The only lead medics currently have is the possible connection between heart health and the drugs that are administered for AMD. (more…)

The Great Classic Plimsoll Debate

Sports shoes are, these days, a whole multi-million pound industry with laboratories, institutes and technologies all their own. What’s wrong with the good old plimsoll is what I say.

That first day at school, where the smell of rubber plimsolls permeated everything including your lunch is an experience that kids these days just don’t get. They’re more concerned with whether they are wearing the right sports shoe according to the fashion stakes than anything else.

So, let’s take a look at the modern day sports shoes and see how the old fashioned plimsoll compares. Shock absorption is an important aspect of the modern day sports shoe, according to scientists. Have these people seen the rubber bumper you get round the toe of a plimsoll? You can kick a chair leg or stub your toe on any pointy surface and this little rubber bumper absorbs all the shock. The plimsoll is the inspiration behind many a fairground ride.

Lightness is another aspect athletes want from a sports shoe to make them go faster. Plimsolls are made of lightweight fabric without all the extra added gizmos. Personally, I think this is mind over matter. Put a go faster stripe on the side and they’ll think they can run faster, no matter how heavy the trainer. And let’s face it, just how heavy can they get?

Stability. How about stability? I’ve been completely trolleyed in these plimsolls of mine and stood upright longer than any drunk in a modern sports shoe. It’s something to do with that amazing rubber grip on the bottom. Once on, they ain’t going anywhere. Not that easy to detach once they have that one way grip on your skin but they’re stability on the feet of a self confessed alcoholic are beyond compare. (more…)

The Locket Necklace Story Revealed

The one piece of jewelry that is so incredibly personal to anyone that owns one is a locket. Lockets have been around for hundreds of years and during all that time they have been used for many different things. Lockets are generally associated with pendants that are worn on a chain, but lockets were often used on a ring as well.

In times past a locket was used to carry around small things that had some value to the wearer. Medicine could be kept inside them as well as poison. Ancient times could be very dangerous to live in and the act of poisoning someone who was a threat to you was often a means of disposing of them.

It was a lot more common than you might think. Lockets were also used by those who held certain beliefs in herbs and like charms to ward off evil and sickness. The hair or ashes of loved ones was often kept inside a locket as one of many items kept as a keepsake.

Lockets were often used to put a miniature hand painted picture inside. These tiny images of the person inside were very tedious work, but done by an expert artist the result was a beautiful work of art.

In the past hundred years or so is when the most popular use for lockets developed so to speak. Placing photographed pictures inside them became their most common use and photos could be had by almost anyone. (more…)

Don't Despair At The Appearance Of Goth Clothing

Most parents know the dreaded time will arrive. It often happens around the time of the thirteenth birthday but, with the ever early advancement of puberty that is occurring in children today, you should be on the look-out for symptoms from the age of about ten onwards. There is no telling which way it will go but be assured it will occur.

The first time is always the worst. With subsequent children you will be prepared because by then your friends have had children and you realise that there is nothing wrong with your first born, in fact, they will all go through it at various stages and in various degrees. I have had three children so have a fair bit of experience in this field. My eldest didn’t start until she was almost fifteen. A late starter but then girls are always different. Her time through this period was a relatively short six months but boy, did she manage to cram some stuff in during that time, ageing me by a good five years.

Next came my eldest son who started at two and at eighteen years of age, hasn’t grown out of it yet. My youngest son started at eleven and was out of it by the age of twelve. Which just goes to prove that if you have enough children you can eventually get it right! (more…)
